About the role
Who You'll Join
A Series A AI startup building the leading agent assistant for game development. You'll work alongside 20 people (9 engineers) who are shipping AI features that help developers build games faster inside Unity and Unreal Engine. The company has grown 10x in revenue over the past year and just closed additional funding, giving you runway and resources to build at scale.
What You'll Do
- Build backend AI agent pipelines and workflows that power the game development assistant, directly shaping developer experience.
- Implement new AI capabilities including agents that process codebases, scene graphs, and knowledge base systems handling large document sets.
- Own and scale backend systems, APIs, queues, and data processing pipelines as you expand from individual developers to studio teams.
- Drive technical decisions around RAG, prompt engineering, tool use, and function calling across multiple LLM providers.
- Design and implement evaluation frameworks ensuring reliable, high-quality AI outputs across diverse game development scenarios.
Who You Are
- 5+ years building backend systems at scale, with experience processing and managing significant data volumes.
- Deep familiarity implementing AI agents, RAG systems, and LLM-powered features in production environments.
- Strong communicator who proactively flags problems and speaks up in technical discussions.
- Self-motivated engineer who operates independently without constant management or direction.
- Experience at known-brand startups or AI-focused companies preferred over large tech companies.
- Bonus: Background in gaming industry or experience building tools at companies like Cursor, Anthropic, Linear, Notion, or Figma.
Tech Stack
TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, RAG, LLM APIs, agent frameworks, prompt engineering.
Why You'll Thrive
- Competitive compensation of $180K–$230K base plus 0.10–0.15% equity with performance bonuses up to 10% paid every six months.
- Small team with multiplicative impact. You're not one engineer among thousands; your work directly shapes how game developers build.
- Leading position in an untapped market. No other company is head-on building AI agents for game development right now.
- Hybrid setup with Bay Area preference. Three days in office (Tuesday–Thursday) for those in the region, with flexibility for remote candidates.
- Runway secured through Series A plus recent funding, letting you focus on building rather than fundraising cycles.
