About the role

Software Engineer, AI

Location: Remote (US), 3 days/week in San Francisco
Salary: $180K - $230K + 0.10 - 0.15% equity
Industry: AI / Game Development

Who You'll Join

A 20-person AI startup building the leading agent for game development. You'll work directly with game studios using Unity and Unreal who are demanding better AI capabilities. The team has grown revenue 10x in the past year and just raised additional funding. This is a chance to shape how developers interact with AI inside their creative tools.

What You'll Do

  • Architect backend agent pipelines and AI workflows that power the game development assistant.
  • Implement new AI capabilities: agents that process codebases, scene graphs, and knowledge base systems handling large document sets.
  • Scale backend systems including APIs, queues, and data pipelines to support growing user bases and larger studio teams.
  • Drive technical decisions on prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and function calling across multiple LLM providers.
  • Design evaluation and testing frameworks to ensure reliable AI outputs across diverse game development scenarios.
  • Own new feature development from zero to one, experimenting with backend AI tooling and infrastructure.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years backend systems experience, ideally processing large datasets like documents or conversations at scale.
  • Hands-on experience implementing features on top of AI tooling, LLM APIs, and agents in production.
  • Strong communicator who surfaces problems proactively and speaks up about blockers or concerns.
  • Self-starter who manages your own work and thrives in small teams without heavy oversight.
  • Experience at known-brand startups or no-name startups preferred over recent big tech roles.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Deno, document processing, knowledge base systems, or Python.

Tech Stack

TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, RAG, LLM APIs, agents, knowledge base builders, document processing.

Why You'll Thrive

  • You'll work on applied AI problems, not research. Real features shipped to real users every week.
  • Equity upside: 0.10-0.15% at a well-funded Series A with strong revenue traction and runway.
  • Small team impact. Your work directly shapes how game developers build. No work gets lost in a machine.
  • Work with the best talent in AI tooling: Cursor, Anthropic, Linear, Notion alumni are ideal matches.
  • Gaming industry is still early for AI. No competitor is head-on attacking this space the way Bezi is.
