About the role

Who you'll join

An autonomous maritime technology company that designs, manufactures, and deploys uncrewed ocean vehicles for US and international defense partners. Their vessels operate globally, collecting ocean data and supporting missions including border security and illegal fishing interdiction. The autonomy team is building the next generation of autonomous capability across a multi-year roadmap, and this is a direct contribution to that work.

What you'll do

  1. Design and deploy production C++ autonomy software running onboard maritime vehicles
  2. Develop algorithms for perception, localization, planning, navigation, and collision avoidance
  3. Integrate radar, camera, and other sensor data into a unified situational awareness stream
  4. Build local and global planners that consume map and sensor data to determine optimal routes
  5. Evaluate algorithmic tradeoffs across accuracy, latency, and constrained onboard compute
  6. Validate autonomous behavior using simulation, telemetry, and real-world vehicle data
  7. Build your own Python tooling to accelerate the development and testing cycle

Who you are

  1. Have 5+ years developing autonomy or robotics software running on physical hardware
  2. Write production-quality C++ and understand its performance characteristics well
  3. Have worked across at least one of: perception, localization, motion planning, or decision-making
  4. Understand computational cost and latency constraints on edge compute hardware
  5. Are comfortable working from first principles to debug and solve problems on real vehicles
  6. Think in algorithms and can make practical tradeoffs between robustness and reliability
  7. Bonus: experience with radar integration, maritime systems, or autonomous driving platforms such as Waymo, Zoox, or Argo AI

Tech stack

C++, Python, ROS, Nvidia Jetson, Sensor Fusion, Computer Vision, Motion Planning, Simulation, Linux, GPU Computing

Why you'll thrive

  1. Compensation sits at the 75th percentile of market, with equity as a core part of every offer
  2. Your software runs on real vessels operating in real ocean conditions, globally
  3. The autonomy team is small, the roadmap is long, and your architectural input will matter
  4. You will work in a production facility where hardware and software teams sit side by side
  5. Defense and ocean mapping demand is growing fast, with active partnerships across US and allied defense customers
