About the role
Software Engineer - payments
Location: New York, NY or Denver, CO
Salary: $200K - $300K + Highly competitive equity
Industry: Fintech / Payments
Who you'll join
A Series A-stage fintech building global payment and account infrastructure for banks, platforms, and marketplaces. The product sits at the intersection of local fiat rails and blockchain-based settlement, letting businesses receive, store, convert, and send money across borders faster and cheaper than traditional alternatives. ARR has grown 20-50% month over month for the last five months, with annualised payment volume exceeding $2 billion.
What you'll do
- Architect acquirer integration covering authorization, capture, void, refund, 3DS, and settlement flows.
- Design PCI-compliant tokenization, vaulting, and checkout surfaces to minimize card data scope.
- Build payment orchestration abstractions that support multiple networks, acquirers, and geographies.
- Develop chargeback, dispute, and fraud signal pipelines including evidence submission and representment.
- Design idempotent, auditable workflows across card authorization, capture, and payout processes.
- Contribute full-stack to platform API surfaces, hosted payment flows, SDKs, and iframes.
- Communicate tradeoffs across acquirers, processors, and gateways covering cost, auth rates, and observability.
Who you are
- Hold 5+ years building production payment systems at early-stage companies.
- Have direct integration experience with an acquirer, gateway, or processor such as Adyen or Checkout.com.
- Understand PCI scope minimization, tokenization strategies, and secure checkout surface design.
- Have built complex async systems, queues, retries, and eventual consistency patterns in production.
- Work autonomously, define your own approach, and unblock yourself without needing direction.
- Thrive in a high-ownership, fast-moving environment where scope expands quickly.
- Bonus: experience with network tokens, account updater, or partial capture edge cases.
Tech stack
TypeScript, React, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Prisma, AWS (SQS, SNS, Lambda), Docker, Vercel
Why you'll thrive
- Compensation reaches $300K cash, with equity priced into a Series A round closing now.
- You own the card processing infrastructure from zero, not a slice of an existing system.
- Every project on the roadmap is net new product surface area, nothing here is pure maintenance work.
- The company is processing over $2 billion annualised volume and growing fast, so your work ships to real scale immediately.
- Equity granted at this stage carries meaningful upside if growth continues at its current rate.
