Who you'll join

An a16z-backed AI startup solving subscription churn for Series B and above consumer brands. The founding team includes engineers who scaled recommendation systems to 500 billion daily interactions at Alibaba and built a consumer AI app acquired by Telegram with nearly 5 million users. You will join a small, fast-moving team of five in San Francisco building AI infrastructure that sits between subscription platforms and the moment a customer decides to leave.

What you'll do

1. Build and extend AI agent infrastructure that delivers personalised retention offers at cancellation.
2. Integrate third-party platforms including Stripe, Amplitude, Mailchimp, Braze, Salesforce, and Zendesk.
3. Develop backend services in TypeScript, Python, and Go on top of existing AWS infrastructure.
4. Implement AI and ML capabilities that meet enterprise compliance and data privacy requirements.
5. Build proactive email marketing and user reactivation systems to identify at-risk subscribers early.
6. Ship production-ready code with full ownership from development through deployment.
7. Contribute to product observability tooling that surfaces user behaviour insights to customers.

Who you are

1. Demonstrate a strong GitHub history of completed, deployed projects.
2. Write accountable, deliberate code rather than relying on AI-generated output uncritically.
3. Commit to a core language or stack for at least two years, not switching annually.
4. Bring two or more years of practical backend engineering experience.
5. Understand or have worked within compliance-conscious, enterprise-grade engineering environments.
6. Thrive working independently in a small, high-velocity team with no layers of process.
7. Bonus: prior experience with competitive programming challenges or internal engineering competitions at a tech company.
