About the role
Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML
Location: New York, Remote (2 days/week in office)
Salary: $220K - $300K + Competitive equity
Industry: Healthcare / AI
Who You'll Join
A digital healthcare company building the largest virtual clinic in the world. You'll join a small foundational AI/ML team tasked with making the entire organisation AI-native. This is early-stage work with real impact: you'll help define how AI integrates into every product we ship, working alongside a team of 4-5 engineers who are architecting shared infrastructure that enables every team to move fast.
What You'll Do
- Design and deploy end-to-end AI solutions using LLMs, RAG, and agent-based architectures in production.
- Build critical AI products: chatbots, recommendation engines, and search functionality used by customers.
- Develop ML pipelines and platform components for model experimentation, fine-tuning, and deployment at scale.
- Collaborate across product, data, and engineering teams to turn healthcare data into intelligent workflows.
- Drive technical decisions on AI/ML systems and establish best practices across the team.
Who You Are
- Write production Python code. You have 6+ years building systems, not just prototyping or publishing papers.
- Understand end-to-end ML workflows. You've owned projects from data preparation through model serving, not just one component.
- Hands-on with modern AI tools: experience building with LLMs, RAG systems, or agents in real applications.
- Comfortable working across infrastructure and product layers. You can design systems and code them yourself.
- Curious about emerging AI tech and willing to learn. Background in traditional ML is fine if you're adapting to LLMs.
- Bonus: Direct experience building chatbots, recommendation systems, or retrieval-based products in production.
Tech Stack
Python, LLMs, RAG, Agents, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenAI API, Google Vertex AI, Go, Java.
Why You'll Thrive
- You'll be one of a handful of engineers shaping the entire product suite as we move to AI-native architecture.
- Competitive salary with meaningful equity in a well-funded healthcare company at a pivotal stage.
- Work on systems that matter. Your code powers real clinical workflows, not academic research.
- Freedom to spike deep in one area (chatbots, recommendations, or search) while growing across the full stack.
- Join a leadership team that values product sense and technical depth equally, not just execution.
