About the role
Senior AI Engineer - Voice & Agentic Systems
Location: Hybrid, San Francisco, CA or Boson, MA
Salary: $180K - $250K + Competitive Equity
Industry: Healthcare AI
Who You'll Join
A venture-backed healthcare startup building an AI nurse concierge for Medicare patients. You'll work directly with founders who are automating care navigation tasks like insurance calls, appointment scheduling, and vendor coordination. The company is at $1M ARR, growing rapidly, and relocating to San Francisco from Boston. This is your chance to own the systems that turn real patient interactions into better AI agents.
What You'll Do
- Build voice AI that automates outbound calls to insurances, vendors, providers, and patients.
- Design agentic systems that orchestrate end-to-end workflows like prior authorizations and equipment delivery.
- Create evaluation infrastructure that measures agent quality across every real-world interaction.
- Implement reinforcement learning pipelines so agents improve continuously from patient conversations.
- Compose multiple agents into a unified AI Nurse experience with shared learning loops.
- Own the feedback loop from product usage back to system-level improvements in production.
Who You Are
- Shipped AI agents or voice systems in production with real users.
- Comfortable learning new stacks rapidly. Curiosity matters more than specific technologies.
- Demonstrated excellence somewhere: top university, fast-growing startup, competition win, published research.
- Thrive in unstructured environments. You solve problems independently and see work through to outcomes.
- Worked at a fast-moving startup or high-intensity environment in the last few years.
- Bonus: Founded or co-founded a company, even if it didn't succeed.
Tech Stack
Python, AWS, PostgreSQL, TypeScript
Why You'll Thrive
- You own a real moat. The company builds reinforcement learning loops and network effects that compound over time, not just AI efficiency.
- Early stage with founders who move fast and make decisions with conviction. You shape the technical roadmap directly.
- Healthcare impact at scale. Every system improvement affects real patient outcomes, not engagement metrics.
- Equity and growth. You're joining at 9 people before the next funding round, with room for meaningful impact.
- Relocation support available as the team moves to San Francisco.
